Why I’ve become an MCE convert

First, let me clear the air, I always look for alternatives to Microsoft products, and particularly open source projects. I use Firefox, Thunderbird and Open Office on Windows XP. But as of last Friday I’ve become a Microsoft Windows MCE convert, and possibly forever.

Why? because it works, and not only does it work well it works quickly with my hardware across the board.

I’ve tried virtually every PVR system out their, and I’m still suffering from trying to install Myth :-) There is some decent commercial software out there (Snapstream comes to mind) but to date I’ve found nothing that matchs MCE on my system.

I’m only running a P4 1.6 with 512 mb. MCE is 3-5 times quicker with the Hauppauge MCE 500 than any other software I’ve used.

It also does everything I want it to. It might sound silly but I’ve always wanted to watch Internet TV on my TV. With a quick plugin I can. I have some old VCDs bought overseas. Nothing I’ve used to date could run them. MCE can. The radio of the Hauppauge 500 works.

The only downside? I haven’t got it working with my digital card yet, but I haven’t downloaded the latest update yet either. Will be doing that this week.

Its quick! what more can I say. Music: works, Radio: Works, TV: works and quickly (media portal had long waits between channels), Internet: works……
