Media Portal 0.1.3 review: thumbs up
Yep, whilst sitting at home looking after a sick child I finally had some decent time in which I couldn’t do other things (including any serious blogging) so I got to get around to doing something I’ve been looking forward to, installing the full release of Media Portal 0.1.3.
As some would be aware I reviewed a pre release a couple of weeks ago and it wasn’t good. What a different 2 and a bit weeks can make.
First and foremost: it works, and it works well. The load time is quicker but its still not super fast, but this could be more reflective of my hardware as well (P4 1.6 + 512mb RAM). Some of the problems with the pre-release have been sorted, the Fushion DVB-T digital card could be tuned again, although like all software based cards its still a little slow between channels (see hardware). Generally speaking you won’t see a lot of difference from the last release accept stability, and stable it certainly is, I’ve abused it, had my son abuse it (he’s nearly 3 and loves remotes) and I couldn’t get it to crash. The nice and clean interface has been finally complemented with some more stability and speed and I’m converting: GB PVR has gotten the flick and I’m on Media Portal full time now. Still problems with getting the TV guide though, but this is more related to my location as opposed to the software. Back to watch some more TV
