Google launching Online Video

Not sure of the quality yet but it looks like Google is launching online video today. The files will be viewable using the VLC media player.

John Battelle writes that the video will be searchable via the meta data provided by the submission process.

Im still trying to find out what file type the actual videos will be in, but there seems to be a rush on VLC with their site reporting 2.3 downloads of the program per second. The big question for DIY PVR enthusiasts is will the files work within existing players or will plugins or similar be required. More info soon.
